 Hello, and welcome to agoodwordtailor.com.
I am Malcolm (Mac) Taylor. In 1983 I started an academic typing business in Albuquerque, New Mexico and called the business The Word Tailor. I chose that name for the business because my clients were mostly graduate school students at the University of New Mexico who needed their handwritten papers not only typed, but also edited for spelling and grammar errors. Many of my clients were Navajos seeking degrees in school administration. Their papers presented a unique problem. They were factually correct, but almost impossible to read because their sentences used Navajo word order and grammatical constructions rather than Standard English. I had to tailor their papers to meet the universities writing standards.
Although I no longer operate that typing service, I still use the business name, The Word Tailor as I pursue my current avocation as a writer of Science Fiction and history.
I launched this web site in the summer of 2005 shortly before going to Germany for eleven months to interview elderly Germans who had been evacuated from their homes along Germany's border with France when World War II broke out in September of 1939. At the time, I had hopes of being able to make use of computers in internet cafes to keep the site updated. That proved to be un-feasible. The usage fees were just too steep. Thus, the site remained dead.
Even after returning from my research trip, I found that I had little or no time available for maintaining the site. Now, however, that is changing. I am resurrecting the site so that I may display some of my writing, exhibit a few of my photos, and elicit help from my readers. I will explain that last comment in some detail a little later when I tell you more about the subject of the book I am writing.
